Sorry for the late post! You know how homework can immediately get out of hand if you don't keep up with it! Haha. These past few weeks have been filled with an exorbitant amounts of stress, accumulating in a giant pool of terribleness. As always, Russian is just stressful. However, I won't neglect this blog much longer!
While I was cleaning out my closet, I wondered if there was such a thing as an essential wardrobe. I mean, everyone and their dog has some idea of their go-to wardrobe. As I threw out my old and tattered things, I thought and thought and thought. Is an essential wardrobe even universal?
In my complicated mind, I finally produced something: The Gilded Beetle's Essential Wardrobe!
So now, onto part one: tops!
You can read all about it after the cut!
1. The printed tee
We've all been there. We're tired, lazy, and not looking to put up with the fuss of fancy clothing. We throw on a tee with the conception that a tee is only meant to be for those no-stress kinds of days. However, today is the day I change your mind!
The key to a tee is its versatility. Wear it under a blazer, tucked into a skirt, or flying free with some jeans. It adds a fun expression of your interests at first glance and it makes a statement. Wearing a band tee shows your interests while image prints are a great conversation starter!
2. Warm sweater
No matter where you live (unless you live on Venus!), there are some days where it's just too chilly/wet/snowy for just a normal shirt. That's where our best bud, the warm sweater comes in. The warm sweater is that one piece of clothing that makes you comfy from the moment you slip it on. And, as an added bonus it can help you make it through another miserable weather kind of day!
If you live in a cold climate like I do, 100% wool sweaters are your greatest asset. They can really keep you warm when the snow is falling. In more temperate climates, wool blends are great.
3. Knit tops
Not to be confused with the warm sweater, knit tops are generally less bulky and heavy. They make for a good selection on lukewarm fall days. They also come in prints, which is also nice, especially when you're looking for a particular design.
I personally enjoy striped knits because they are versatile and match almost everything. That being said, a nice long sleeve v-neck is also pretty great.
4. Cardigan
Ah, the cardigan. You've got the comfy factor of a sweater or knit top plus the added benefit of easy removal. They're great for variable temperatures and give you that great layered style. They're really great when they're made of wool as well.
Suggestions: black cardigans, fun bright coloured cardigans, long sleeved.
5. Tank top
The understated essential to the wardrobe is the tank top. Our forgotten hero mercilessly battles less-than-opaque shirts, the occasional button down blouse and hot days! What more could you want from something so simple?
6. Blouse
Finally, we've reached the blouse. The blouse has been the staple of business women around the world because of its sleek, professional attitude. However, not all of us are trying to get the big promotion by acing the meeting! The great thing about blouses are its range in colour, collar, and fabric. The traditional pointed collar that we are so familiar with doesn't have to be the collar on your shirt nor must you stick with simple white cotton!
In addition, blouses come in many different styles, ranging from cute and flirty to downright down to business. They especially look good when layered under a sweater!
What do you think is your essential top? Why?
