Les Misérables: Javert

If you haven't caught the buzz, Tom Hooper's newest cinematic jewel, Les Misérables has swept the world in a frenzy of French revolutionary music entangled in love, death, and life. The film, set in turbulent 18th century France, follows the life of an ex-convict Jean Valjean as he attempts to redeem himself as a man instead of a criminal. With an all-star cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen, the movie is no disappointment. Each of the cast brings their all and lights up the stunning screen like no other.

Of course, Russell Crowe's character, Javert, takes the cake for best dressed.

What attracts me to Javert is the usage of navy, black and white-gold. While this is primarily due to his status as an enforcer of the law, the colours bring out the depth and sombre notes of his character. He's a dark figure; the antagonist who has no pity because of his devotion to the upholding of the law. Clad in these dark colours, he is a man of conviction and of ruthless persecution. Still, regardless of the evolution of his character, Russell Crowe really brings life to Javert.

Have you seen Les Misérables? What did you think?
